Joint salvage reconstruction of ankle with osteotomy
and distraction
Patient: Dino
Preop:
Dino Crushed his ankle while on duty as a firefighter.
Despite
initial treatment elsewhere, he developed a severe deformity
of the tibia above the ankle (shortening, recurvatum, and
varus), and arthritis and contracture of the ankle.
Postop:
An osteotomy of the tibia and fibula was performed and with
a TSF, gradual correction of both the bony deformity and the
ankle contracture was done simultaneously.
Followup:
With correction of the deformity and distraction, the ankle
joint was optimized.
Followup:
This
joint preservation approach allowed Dino to return to active
duty as a firefighter.
